REINVENTING THE PIER
Once the pride and joy of the California coast, The Pier is going back in time to return to its glory days. Its vintage buildings and surrounding public areas have recently commenced a multi-year, phased renewal program.
The Redondo Landing, the gateway building to The Pier, was the first to commence reconstruction in November 2011. Its new façade will remind you of the original Looff Hippodrome, the landmark carousel building built on The Pier in the 1920’s. When completed in the first half of 2012, The Redondo Landing will also showcase vintage historical photos of The Pier and surrounding areas, along with an historical timeline of the history of The Pier. You won’t want your kids to miss this!
The City of Redondo Beach is a full partner in this effort, and has some surprises to add to the mix… including new paving, whose unique design will remind you of The Pier’s original wooden planks. Add to the mix new lighting, landscaping, benches, and signage, and you will love what you see!
All of the shops and restaurants will remain open, so come on down and grab some chow, buy someone special a gift, and watch us return to our storied past. Don’t wait another day to come visit and watch us reinvent ourselves. After all, when will you have the chance to see a Pier getting a makeover again?
